Meet training week 1 - Squats and tugs

Bodyweight - 257

Squats -
barx10,10
135x10
225x5
315x4
405x3
455x2
500x1

455x3,3,3,3

Deficit Deadlifts  -

315x3
405x3
500x3
585x3

Notes - Worst session I've had in months.  I mean a TRUE -10% session.  Hernia was hurting, legs felt awful and dead, and the 585x3 was a grinder.  I mean fuck, I just smoked 635 from a 4" deficit last Saturday.  This was an epically bad session.  A great way to start the meet cycle!  Fucking not.

  1. I too have a hernia. Belly button. I've put off surgery probably ten years but no pain. Can it get a lot worse? Do you have to end up getting surgery? It freaks me out. I just try to be careful. Any advice? What are you going to do? Thanks on the most recent video. Heeding your advice has me moving up after a long plateau thanks!

    1. Sometimes it bothers me, and other times not. I do need it get it fixed before it gets worse tho. I'm not overly concerned.

    2. I had an umbilical hernia as well, about 3 years ago at this point. Lifted with it for a few months then had it repaired when it was convenient.

It's not that bad. Your abdomen hurts like hell for a couple days and you can hardly move. Then you get around slow for 2-3 more days. After a week walking around should be just about normal.

I started lifting light ~3 weeks after surgery. I was back at full strength maybe ~8-10 weeks after the surgery.

    3. Did you get your hernias from lifting? Is there any way to prevent a hernia? Ab work?

  2. -10 session? After you pushed it hard less than a week ago? I remember reading, and seeing a recent video, where a veteran lifter said something can happen after you go after a PR ....
