8 solid metal songs for training

Anthrax - Only

James Hetfield called this the most perfect metal song ever.  There you go.

Pantera - I'm Broken

Lots to pick from out of the Pantera vault.  But I went with I'm Broken rather than Walk or 5 Minutes Alone or Cowboys From Hell.  Also, just take it from me, don't party at Phil's house.....

Metallica - For Whom The Bell Tolls

The first Metallica song I ever heard.

Slayer - Seasons in the Abyss

Everyone always picks Reign in Blood or Angel of Death.  But I like Seasons...

Meshuggah - Bleed

Balls out shit.

As I Lay Dying - Confined

The ending in this song makes me want to fight Vikings.

Thy Will Be Done - Voices Divides

I love this fairly unknown band.  I like everything I've heard by them.

Motley Crue - Shout at the Devil

The heaviest the Crue ever was, and still the best music from my youth.  I wore about a million "Shout" tapes out.

  1. I'm glad you posted Thy Will Be Done. Back in high school, we acted as local opener for them, Threat Signal, and The Agonist. They're really good guys.

  2. I love this band Matt. Everything I've heard from them I like. Did you get to know any of them personally?

  3. hey paul, i second the thy will be done comment. never heard them before, but i just spent 20 minutes lstening to them. WOW. i am always looking for bands just like this. the vocals are perfect. that's what turns me off to most newer bands. the singer just screams like a girl. there is a difference between screaming and yelling. i much prefer the latter. these guys are great! thanks for posting it!

  4. TWBD is awesome. I have all of their stuff and it's as top quality metal as I have found in a long time. The musicians are excellent and it's a perfect mix of using melodies with the heavy riffs.

Fire will fall and Until The Ancient Of Days. Until the Ancient has one of the coolest mellow breakdowns in the middle of the song that I have ever heard. And the solo afterwards is fucking mint.

  5. I talked to J a couple of times via email, but that was about 2 years ago. I did the same with Alyssa from the Agonist and some of the guys from Threat Signal. School and ROTC have kept me from talking to any of them.

J is one of the coolest people I've ever met, the entire band is. Everyone was really nice to us, a bunch of high school kids opening for some of our favorite bands. It was a perfect night.

  6. That's awesome man. I hope these guys blow up soon because they make some of the best metal I've heard in forever.

  7. No Ac/Dc but if I had to pick one it'd have been for those about to rock.

  8. Godsmack - Crying like a bitch?
