Bodyweight - 244
Standing Press Behind the Neck -
225x1 most def a max
165x6-4 50% set
V-Bar Chins -
Bodyx16-6 50% set
Floor Press - pain x 10000
Reverse Grip Bench - 225x2 ouch
Push ups - bodyx50 this was ok
Notes - So I saw Dmitry do his standing PBN like these. Super wide grip and strict. Let me tell...........these are fucking hard. I can usually rep 225 fairly easily behind the neck standing or seated. 225 was a true max. Dmitry did this for a triple fairly easy on the video I saw. He's a god damn beast tho, and I am weak. So I need to get stronger.
My pec minor is absolutely screaming at me right now. TOO many fucking weeks of heavy benches without rotating in the light incline like I used to, to keep that at bay. So now, I will need to see if I can just incline or possibly do reverse grip bench, which sometimes doesn't bother me but did tonight. So I just finished with a set of 50 push ups and called it a night. I'm tired and fucking hungry.
That is a great Snatch Grip Press behind the neck!ReplyDelete
Thanks. I don't think it's great. I felt pretty shitty about it actually.Delete
I'd check around, sounds like a mouse farted about 21 seconds in. Don't want it to get into the insulation.ReplyDelete
Full grip ?ReplyDelete
what is this madness !!!
I know, I've apparently lost my mind with this bullshit. Just giving it a try. It's hard.Delete
Holy shit dude, those snatch grip BTNs are so fucking hard. I tried doing them too awhile ago after watching the Klokov video and could barely get 135. 225 blows my mind and the 245 or so he was doing in that video for like an easy warmup is just inhuman.ReplyDelete
Klokov is kinda boss tho.Delete
is it dangerous to btn press like this? hey paul what caused ur pec minor injury, i had a slight strain on my pec from doing a five rep max on bench a year ago and im trying to prevent it i remember i was bounchin the bar off my chest hard then a few days did some speed benching after a military press sesion and i tweaked that shit, just curious so i can prevent stuff like this ? do u thinnk db flys help with the pec minor after a heavy bench session? i think ed coan used to do thatReplyDelete
paul i know uve done cleans, have u ever done snatches or a power snatch? im curious to see just for the hell of it how much you can snatch or clean and jerk* i know u hate the jerk but with the way ur press i can imagine wut you can split jerk?ReplyDelete
Never done em. I believe I would suck at em. I have no idea how this would translate into those movements.Delete
Paul, I noticed you have some trouble getting your chin over your hands properly on those weighted chins.ReplyDelete
I used to be really weak at the top but something that helped me was just doing a two-armed hang with my chin way over the bar (like, at my collarbone) for 1 or 2 sets of 30+ seconds, after weighted/bodyweight chins.
That's just me, and I'm a much lighter guy, but it'll probably work for you too.
I had trouble at the top because I had 100 pounds attached to me and that was near max weight. I just need to get stronger.Delete
Yeah I know (and usually agree with) your philosophy of 'make everything stronger, the sticking point will always be the same' --I think that's your viewpoint on this anyway. But chins were different, for me at least, I was able to raise the sticking point by doing those holds....Delete
100 is near my max too. Very impressive for a heavy guy, 100x5 is a good goal.
Actually my REAL goal is 100x6 since Wendler has done 100x5 and I still need to beat him.Delete
Amazing BTN press, man.ReplyDelete
I´ve been doing a lot of BTN Push Presses lately. I know you don´t like push presses, but I love the explosiveness of them.
And 16 chins at 244 that deep into the session is just retardely strong. Awesome job.
I guess it's all about perspective. I never feel like anything I do is worth a shit at all. But thanks!Delete
So are you gonna be doing your BTN presses like this from now on, or are you gonna go back to doing them the way you used to? Speaking of which, which form would you prefer? Klokov's, or more like this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOrIAbGFjx8)?ReplyDelete
I use the latter (except I don't do the first part of the movement from the front but just take the bar out of the rack at ear level, seems like a waste of energy to do one from the front and probably ain't all that good for your shoulders to press that wide from the front), but I remember being amazed by Klokov's video. This video might help your technique issues regarding that form:
I will probably do both. Seated pbn in my usual style and then standing like this, because it's fucking hard.Delete
That seems a good enough reason to do it this way. I think Ted Arcidi used a similar style except he used a closer grip judging from pictures I've seen...and seeing as he BTN pressed 315 standing he must've known what he was doing.Delete
Ted's style was more similar to the one I usually use. Going snatch grip on the PBN makes it about 10000 times harder.Delete
whats the name of the band of the V chins video??ReplyDelete
