Podcast with Capt. Kirk

No intro, no outro because one is not needed.

This is a podcast with the Captain.  My favorite powerlifter of all time, Kirk Karwoski.

Very little bullshit here, lots of training and eating talk, pure training shit.

There are some times when his call breaks up because a massive storm was raging but you'll survive somehow.

Some highlights -

Spent his "offseason" doing 8's
Tried to maintain explosiveness through whole training cycle (no grinding)
Ate FOOD to both grow, and get lean.  Not basing his diet around shakes.
Trained 16 weeks for meet training with very few misses ever in training.

Enjoy.

  2. Great interview! I WANNA HOLD IT! haha. Paul, could you elaborate a bit on the bench pree arc that you discussed- keeping your arms straight, ending up at eye level, seeing your knuckles, and how to know you hit the right angle?

    1. No I can't because I don't bench that way and I haven't been taught it. If you want some videos of Kirk you will see what he's talking about in regards to it however.

  3. Kirk is so awesome. Was interesting to hear that he predominantly did 8's and 5's, really goes against all the low rep stuff going around now.
Thanks for doing this Paul, looking forward to part II.

  4. That dvd is worth poundage on your lifts immediately. It is amazingly inspirational. Starting Strength sells it.

Paul, great job on the interview, you can tell that you did your homework before talking to him.

One day I was talking to him in the gym and he said, "Let me knock out this set real quick." He walked over and did 585 for 5,no belt no wraps, no big deal. And this was after he retired.

    1. Thanks to you for making this happen Jim! And your blog and writing is really underrated. I linked you up on here so I hope more people will find it and take advantage of the knowledge you offer.

  5. Just goes to show there's no magic secret/pill that the elite lifters have been hoarding. It's hard work on a level that people like me can only hope to understand one day. Thanks for the interview.

  6. Not only was that filled with great info but it was hilarious as well, especially the last 10 minutes when Kirk was talking about the two voices on your shoulder lol.

  7. Great podcast! Question - When are you going to have another podcast with Jamie? Was there a falling out between you two? Not that it's any of my business, I just really love the podcasts.
