MMA Blurb - UFC 148

It's finally here. Probably the most hyped fight, thanks to Chael, in UFC history. Also, one of the most changed cards as well. This was supposed to be a "Super Card", and while Zuffa can no longer make that claim, it's not like they didn't try. Remember that Cruz and Faber were originally slated as a co-main event, and then Cruz got injured, so Faber got matched up with Barao. Supposedly the United Nations booked up all the hotel rooms, and then Jose Aldo got injured, so the Urijah vs Barao match got moved to UFC 149, and UFC 148 gets moved to Las Vegas. Never mind the death threats and security logistics involved in having Chael P. Sonnen fight in Brazil. Forget about the soccer stadium, and having a bazillion Brazilians, all watching Sonnen like a hawk. I mean, can you imagine the chaos ensuing if Chael were to beat Silva, in a soccer stadium full of Silva fans, and in there own country? Despite his athleticism, Chael wouldn't be able to get to da choppa quick enough.

Anderson, for the first time, is showing some emotion. Someone has gotten in his head, and it looks like Anderson is just human! Chaels in his head, fucking shit up. Anderson has never let anyone get to him, and although no other opponent has possessed the doctorate in shit talking that Chael does, I am still surprised to see Silva so pissed. His sensei would not approve.

Everyone seems split, unwilling to commit on a prediction, and I wonder how they'll feel after Chael whoops Anderson Silvas ass. My other picks in bold.

Forrest Griffin vs Tito Ortiz
Cung Le vs Pat Cote
Dong Hyun Kim vs Demian Maia
Chad Mendes vs Cody McKenzie
Guillard vs Cameos

Random MMA Blurbs

Joey Diaz (no relation to Nick or Nate) talks about UFC 148.

Rampage and Rashaad star in "Treat me like a bitch"

Dana regrets no Fedor vs Lesner.

Bruce Buffer gets his own app.

Christian fighters fight for Jesus love.

Kim Winslow is perfectionist hotty in a ugly tough mans sport.

UFC Poster curse. If true, Silva loses his belt next. It's obviously the poster curse.

TommyToeHold is the funniest MMA commentator in existence. The Silva impersonation is great. Like a real soft spoken Mike Tyson.

Mike Tyson was on the MMA Hour with Ariel.

Chael: "I've got one tremendous problem... I am exactly 20 pounds overweight. That gives me about 27 hours to lose 20 pounds." Sounds like a problem. Hopefully Chael is trolling everyone. He is a wrestler, they're pros at cutting, and trolling.

  1. Funny thing is that in the press conference, Silva said a lot of shit to Chael (2:58), and they translated it all wrong.

My picks are the same as yours, except that I pick Silva against Chael.

  2. I'd like to see the old Michael Jackson dancing A. Silva from Pride make a return. I'd also like to see him tapping out to a submission, also like in Pride.

  3. Also, Griffin/Ortiz = the audience loses.

  4. I sure hope you are right about Chael. Either way, I haven't been this excited to watch a fight in a long time.

  5. Sonnen over Silva??? Have you seen either of them since their last fight? Silva is a different fighter than he was. He's much more intense and focused. Sonnen... he's just a blowhard.

  6. It amazes me that people are still picking Chael. He fought the perfect fight against a severely injured Silva, juiced to the gills and still choked. Chael never touches a healthy Anderson (just look at his fight with Vitor to see the movement he can do when healthy). Chael has no power in his punches, soft GnP, all he has got is an elite level mouth that is probably going to get him hurt tomorrow.

  7. I predict that Chael is going to lose, badly, and in spectacular fashion, but goddamn, the UFC has to keep him around, he's fuckin' hilarious! That press conference was SO ENTERTAINING!

    Some awesome Chael quotes:

"Greetings from Sao Paulo! I'm learning the language: breakdancing in the Special Olympics is called Capoiera and cocaine is called brunch."

"My phone rings, they call me up and say, 'Chael, your testosterone level is too high.' I say, 'Well, how high was it?' They say, '0.7.' I said, 'What's normal?' They say, '0.6.'; I said, 'One-tenth? You're telling me I'm one-tenth higher than the average man? Re-test that - you must have caught me on a low day.'"

    Comedic Genius...

  8. Chael is gonna get beaten up badly, his move is gonna backfire on him, he is not getting into Silva's mind anymore to screw up his game, it has gotten to the point where Silva wants seriously hurt him so bad Silva's gonna actually change his game to do that.

But I think Chael just wanted to pull this as a publicity stunt. The dude knows he has no shot at the title. He is gathering all the attention he cans, even if he lost he has all this publicity marketing him as the "MMA Bad boy" which he'll profit on.

  9. A Coco Diaz link? Aww, shit. Paul just became way cooler. Take note, cocksuckas.

  10. Ah Paul. Anderson in 3. Chael will crack. Chael chokes. And Anderson is scary this time.

  11. You tards realize I don't write the MMA blurbs........right??? My buddy Z, does.

  12. Wouldn't be shocked to see a first round Silva win.

    Sonnen has zero chance here

  13. Haha. I am glad I posted anonymously. I am newish to LRB and didn't know there were other contributors.

    -Totally not Ben

  14. I was disappointed for about 30 seconds after Sonnen lost, and then Silva squashed the beef and took the high road. Silva handled that very well. /Not.even.mad
