Training - Lower body #2

Bodyweight - 239

1 legged squats 6 x 10

High Bar Pause Squats -
225x3,3,3
315x3,3,3
365x3,3,3

Notes - Super fucking tired fuck a god damn diet with 30 grams of carbs or less a die die die in a fucking grease fire laden with aids and cancer.

I think I may have pulled my hamstring a bit on the last set of squats.  I totally believe it's because of this diet too as I feel very flat and tired.  I've said all along, and I don't give two flying fucks what anyone says, you cannot build strength and mass on low carb horseshit.  No one got supremely massive and strong on a CKD, suck my nuts.

  2. Why not give Jamie's APD a try?

  3. I think this low-carb business is something the body has to get used to, which doesn't happen overnight. Look up "fat adaption". Or, seeing as you are already strong and lean, don't.

  4. You fuckers act like I've never done low carb before, or the metabolic diet for 5 months.

  5. Im with Paul, low carb dieting is stupid and pointless.

  6. Paul, are you doing the full 10 day induction phase? I'm interested in giving the CBL a go but that part sounds awful.

    1. Yes I'm doing the 10 day prep phase. It sucks nuts.

    2. Second that. I'm 4 days in and it's miserable. Similar feeling to when I shitcanned tobacco years ago.

    3. It only gets worse. Just saying. Just grin and bear it for a few more days.

    1. Low carb is awesome for cutting, but youll be lucky to maintain strength let alone gain on a diet like that. Cmon, get back to eating. You didnt get diesel eating like a girl, and your wife is probably tired of having to finish the leftovers. ;) Jk, but for real.. Fuck that shit

  8. I tried doing the low carb thing for a week. I hated my life every single day of that. I made the best gains on a fairly high carb diet, and dropped about 30lbs while eating plenty of carbs. I could get away with low carb one day, and fairly high carb the next.

  9. Maybe you and Jamie could discuss this low carb stuff on the next podcast. Should be a good one, since he seems to disagree that you cant get bigger and stronger with a CKD.

  10. Isn't Jamie's diet primarily low-carb? Interesting discussion topic for next chaosandbang anyway.

  11. I'm only doing this for 10 days, and I may not make it 10. Jamie and I can definitely go over this because I don't agree at all that you can get as jacked and as strong as possible on low carbs. Even in some science supports it, all of the biggest strongest humans on the planet don't eat that way now.

  12. I actually felt the best on a 1980's bodybuilding diet. High protein, high carbs, low fat.

    calories: 2,500
    protein: about 1gram/lb
    carbs: about 300 grams
    fats: about 50 grams
One day a week I'd eat whatever, chow down on stuff with plenty of fat. Enjoy life.

I trained twice a week, and ran tempo runs/intervals about 4 days a week. I drank a lot of coffee in the AM, and ate most of my food after I trained. So a back-load, of sorts. "Just hit your macros," was my diet motto.

I felt good, I looked full, I had plenty of energy.

sounds similar to what i do.
      what was your split?
would you care to outline a "typical" conditrioning day?
      thanks

  13. Jamie seems like an outlier when it comes to many facets of diet and exercise. He's obviously found something that works for him, even if some of his advice goes against what a bunch of other big, strong guys would normally say. (Other than "Lift heavy and do plenty of squats", which I think everyone agrees on.)

  14. Low carb can blow me. 300+ carbs is where it's at. Felt like I wanted to commit suicide by day 4 of <50 carbs. Never again.

  15. I very much believe that Jamie is an outlier when it comes to lifting and eating and how he does it.

Now does it work for him? Yes. But I don't think eating ketogenic diets and training 14 times a week is going to work for the majority of the guys out there because lots of guys have tries these things and couldn't do it. I don't think it's about not being a pussy, I think it's about the fact is, most people require more carbs and recovery than he does.

  16. Keep in mind, Paul's still just in the induction phase of CBL, and you don't even necessarily have to do it. Lots of people skip the induction and do just fine. I skipped the induction phase because I'm small and already relatively lean. The induction is just a 10-day keto run anyway, CBL isn't a low carb diet at all. It's pretty fucking high carb actually. I'd imagine that on some days, someone Paul's size would be eating upwards of 300-500g of carbs or more a day depending on how shit settles out for him and what his goals are.

  17. Whenever I bring carbs up on a bulk, no matter the program I make about the same gains I did on the cut... which is to say jack shit.

In fact, my best strength gains in recent months were when I was on Jamie's APD for Fat Fucks. Stopped to try and put on mass, only I just got fat instead. Going back on it this week.

    1. This is because "bulking" when fat sucks for strength.

The fact is I've never been stronger at 270+ than I am at 240. There comes a point of diminishing returns. What are you "bulking" for if you're over 15% bodyfat? It literally offers no benefit and you just feel shittier.

Lots of guys don't understand this. Be as lean as you can and as strong as you can at the same time. that's what "be strong, be in shape" is all about. Eating to "bulk" when you're already "bulked" offers zero benefit.

      Delete
    2. I suppose you're right. I did get down to 15% once, but I was so small and weak that I went right back to bulking. I figured since standard recommendations for novices are to lift hard and eat harder, it'd work itself out.

    3. Your body isn't very efficient at anything when you're fat. not even lifting. Getting below 15% and staying there is best.

  18. So will your body remain in ketosis during the whole time while doing CBL?

    1. Jesus no. You eat the shit out of carbs once you start backloading.

  19. I try to keep my library of all things nutritional and biomechanical well updated, and I've always been willing to spend money to do it, including on Jamie's stuff and Paul's stuff.

So, even though there's tons of free backloading info out there, I actually went ahead and bought the atrociously expensive CBL e-manual. I have to say I'm glad I bought the book, I just wish Kiefer would lower the price to discourage people from judging an 90% version, because 90% of it really is just a TKD or an IF variant, but the devil's in the details. Those details make it stupid simple to take your bf % and lean % and hold one steady while you move the other one around, and a lot of people including me have been doing stuff like dropping down to 12% and below while gaining strength, it's insane.

Anyway, Paul, I'm really looking forward to hearing about your experiences with it as a seasoned lifter, positive or negative, and I can't wait for your super training tome to drop nuts.

  20. I am a noob but low carb is working well for me, making descent gains. However I still say above 50g a day and drink heaps of shakes to support gluconeogenesis
