Thoughts about life, crap, training, and stuff

So I went and saw the new Batman flick.  It was good.  Solid.  I didn't cum in my pants 14 times as I watched it, but it was solid.

I really can't believe that I haven't read anyone talking about the very ironic parallel between the shooting that happened opening night with this movie, and what happened in the actual movie.  It stuck out to me like a sore thumb.

Spoilers below in case you're one of those faggoty bitches that complains about someone telling spoilers without a "spoilers" warning.

When Bane puts the police below the city, and then arms the criminals, the ordinary citizens were reduced to helpless victims at the hands of the criminals.

When law abiding people are forced to give up their guns, they are at the mercy of the crazies.

The movie theaters and malls have "Gun Free Zone" signs they put up on the doors of the entrance.  In other words, if you have a conceal to carry, you can't bring in.  So you keep the people who have lawfully underwent the process to be a law abiding, gun-toting citizen from having his weapon, and then outlaws walk in armed to the teeth, with no one to stop them.

The sign these assholes should be using

I think it's stupid on a level that is hard to comprehend.  But then again, some micropenis having dipshit weasel bitch said I was the dumbest man on the internet, so what the fuck do I know?  Oh yeah, that was Faggatron reborn.  Either way, I also want to say that I fully embrace my role as dumbest man on the internet.  There's gotta be some money and fame that comes along with being #1 at anything on the internet, right?  Fuck yeah.

Back to the topic....

I have no idea why people think that gun control is the answer.  Even funnier to me, is that these hypocrites always want to legalize drugs because "the war on drugs is stupid", yet plead to the masses that we need to get rid of guns, and need more gun control.

In other words, a war drugs is stupid but the war on weapons needs more ammo.  Pun intended.

It's no different than any war on anything that you're not winning.  If the shit you are doing isn't working, try something else.

Everyone knows the definition of insanity right?  Keep trying the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

Gun control laws do NOT stop psychopaths and/or criminals (usually one in the same) from acquiring guns to kill people with.  The people who abide by gun control laws, are the people who are NOT likely to run around killing people with their guns.  This is shit a 3rd grader can understand, yet almost all of one side of our political party, cannot.

The movie theater was Bane.  It forced the law abiding citizens to be defenseless by taking away their protection.

The gunman was Anarchy.  Once Bane put the police underground and freed the criminals, the law abiding citizens were subject to the violence and lawlessness he unleashed upon them.

At some point, we have to get people to understand that an armed society is a polite society.  Criminals think twice about pulling a gun for fear that 4 guns could be staring back at them.  This is where we should be headed as a society, however the fear mongers and spineless pacifists in this country continue to try and neuter us from being able to adequately defend ones self against someone packing heat.

Since I am a Ron Paul supporter...............

In our own country, we should be ever vigilant against any attempts to disarm the people, especially in this economic downturn. I expect violent crime to rise sharply in the coming days, and as states and municipalities are even more financially strained, the police will be even less able or willing to respond to crime. In many areas, local police could become more and more absorbed with revenue generating activities, like minor traffic violations and the asset forfeiture opportunities of non-violent drug offenses. Your safety has always, ultimately been your own responsibility, but never more so than now. People have a natural right to defend themselves.

If you are a gun control support kinda guy, I personally suggest you take a big shot of testosterone, man the fuck up, grab that thing you call your head that is buried deep within your asshole, and pull it out.

It is not the job of the police to protect you from crime.  Their job is to enforce the law and maintain law and order.  It is YOUR JOB to protect yourself, and your loved ones.  Take the steps necessarily to do that.  If you hate guns, grow some fucking balls and get educated on them.  Go learn to fire them safely, learn how to store one safely in your home, and teach your kids about them.  If a criminal breaks into your home with a gun to kill you, what's that saying about bringing a gun to knife fight?  Yeah.  You need to be able to meet fire with firepower.

Now for the weather.......

That aside, as for the movie itself, sorry but as I mentioned I was not blown away.  There were no "OMG" moments for me in the entire movie.  The story was well done, and I enjoyed it.  But it did not cause fireworks to spontaneously burst out of my ass.  On a 1-10 scale I'd give it a mild 7 to be honest.

Also, there were two kids sitting in front of me snuggled up so close you'd have thought they were former foster siblings that had just been reunited.  They would not stop flapping their gums and after about an hour, I leaned forward between the seats and said "would you two kindly shut the fuck up."  The boy leaned forward and turned around as if he were going to get lippy.....until he saw me.  Then he just said "sorry."  No more sounds were made.

Also speaking of Batman, I wish I had a dollar for every person that told me I should have been cast as Bane.  That's great.  Except for I wasn't, and would have loved to made a few million dollars for just looking like I do, and fake beating people up.  It's not like Hardy had a bunch of Shakespearean lines to recite in this thing.  I think I could have pulled it off.

I could have done this.......better.

The new Strength Life Legacy shirts are for sale in the store now.  They are the best looking shirts I have had made, no bullshit.  Pics do not do them justice.  I only have 30 available after I send all the free ones out with the book, so if you want one you better grab it fast.

Speaking of the book, as soon as it hits my doorstep I will let everyone know, and do my best to get all of them shipped off that day.  I will also put the paperback up for sale that day both here and on Amazon.

I threw a VIP party for some of my friends at Angel's Rock Bar this weekend and we had an incredible time.  Phil Stevens came with his lovely wife, and bought us all dinner.  We then proceeded to party until about 1 or so (I know, I'm weak sauce), and I threw a guy out of our section (literally) for trying to dance with my wife, who had told him "no".

Training feels good again.  Squats felt ok Saturday, and my leg seems to be slowly healing.  Still a slight amount of pain, and I'm so itching to get some weight on the bar but I will be patient.

I will be doing a AMA in the sub-reddit section called "Swole Acceptance".  Basically, to talk about how guys that are "swole" have to endure both sides of the spectrum in terms of positive and negative connotations with how they look.  Look for it Tuesday night at 5 P.M. CST.

There was no CNBYE last night, I think Jamie and I may wait until this Sunday to get back on schedule, or may do one this week.  I know Jim Steel wants to do one with us, and that would be such a privilege to have him on.  I'm sure I will talk to him today and we will get it all worked out.
I had one of the best weekends in forever so I'm in a pretty jolly mood this morning.  So I hope everyone has an amazing fucking Monday.

  1. Well I must be dumb too, because I agree with this. Especially the bit about safety being our own responsibility.

On a side note, those two scenarios you mentioned about have to put rude people in their place really resonated with me. As a smaller dude it eats at me when I hold my tongue because I feel too small to say anything in a situation like that. When I hesitate about getting into the gym, that's the kind of stuff that lights the fire under my ass. Good on you for letting people know they don't get to act like jerk offs whenever they want to.

  4. I recently moved back from the states to the UK, and have to say that I would much rather be back in the US where I can legally have a gun. It's so stupid here that if you hurt someone breaking into your house, they have the right to sue you and YOU could or will also be charged.

Totally agree with you on its your right and duty to protect yourself.

Happy Monday dumbest man on the internet! LMFAO

  6. I'm sure I will get jeered for not including a joke about Jamie's movie career here but, Jim Steel the strength coach, or Jim Steel the ghey porn director?

  7. Paul,

Good stuff. I have my permit and carry concealed everywhere. Walmart, movie theaters, out to eat, out fishing, etc. My wife also carries concealed.

I will say that just because a business post a sign saying no firearms does NOT mean you can be arrested for it. IF they discover you are carrying, they can ask you to leave, but you cannot be arrested for breaking a law. It is the private business' request, kind of like "No shirt no shoes". Personally, we take our business else where. No better way to hurt them then in the pocket book. Here in PA we cant carry into court houses, secondary schools, and post offices. That is it. We can carry into any business and there is nothing legally they can do.

Every time someone brings up gun control I just remind them of Oaklahoma City and 9/11. Not a single gun used, yet a lot of people were killed...

  8. Well, you certainly opened up a can of worms with this post.

My question to Paul and others: How do you explain why the homicide rate in the US is the highest in the western world? Furthermore, how do you explain the US homicide rate being 3x higher than its neighbour to the north, Canada? Both countries are multicultural societies that heavily rely on immigration.

Now, given the fact that the US has the highest homicide rate in the western world AND they have the most guns on the street (only western nation I know of with carry and conceal permits) it logically does not follow that MORE guns will somehow result in a reduction in violent (i.e. homicides) crime. With the number of guns on the street now shouldn't the US have the lowest homicide rate in the western world? Based on your logic with more people carrying people would be less likely to shoot and kill one another.

This is why intelligent people question the policy.

Lastly, the reason why people question the US war on drugs is because currently the US has more people incarcerated than when the Soviet Union was throwing people into Gulags. US has the highest incarceration rate in the entire world. Most of these people are sitting in prison for non-violent or drug related offences.

Again, this is why intelligent people question the policy.

    1. Do you think that most of the people that commit murder, or violent crime in the U.S. are people with a legal right to carry weapons?

Intelligent people don't question it. They understand that the law abiding citizen isn't running around getting a CCL, to make sure he's doing what's right and proper under the law.

The majority of the people who kill people via guns, don't do so via legal ownership of said guns.

So yes, more people armed would generally mean less crime. This has been proven with stats.

      http://ezinearticles.com/?The-Problem-With-Gun-Control-Laws&id=7197999

No different than people putting a "warning - guard dog" sign on their fence tends to keep people out. Again, the intelligent people DON'T question it.

I've already said I'm all for legalizing pot. Meth or crack? Fuck no.

  9. Paul, you'd certainly play a badass Bane. You just need to get into Nolan's circle of actors.

  10. Yeah, but could you have done the cool accent? I enjoyed it, was sick and just needed a way to pass a few hours of time so perfect. I want to know what med school where they teach how to fix a broken back by punching it, and then hanging you from a rope. Also, Bane's mask prevents him from feeling pain?? How the fuck does that work? So many questions from this movie that will never be answered.
I agree about the gun control thing, and the people who want to legalize drugs are completely delusional and naive.

    1. I think bane's mask involved a complicated series of needles and tubes constantly pumping a painkiller/opiate into his face, wasn't that the point? Nolan kind of took the old comic book exaggerated bane with the giant tubes and created a minimalist version, have to say I liked what he did with bane.

  12. I keep trying to write long posts about my feelings regarding gun control, but always end up starting over, so I'm keeping this in bullet points;

    1. Are high capacity magazines and high power semi automatic rifles useful for self or home protection?
    2. A lot of violent crimes are committed by people who, in all other areas of their lives, are complete law abiding citizens. They don't know how to find a gun on the black market. Crimes of passion also rarely have time for the perpetrator to source an illegal weapon.
    3. If your criminal target is unarmed, and guns are illegal, why would you bother to break the law and use one when a knife works just as well?
    4. This report
    http://www.unodc.org/documents/data-and-analysis/statistics/Homicide/Globa_study_on_homicide_2011_web.pdf
would seem to refute your gun lobbyist's arguments that more guns mean less crime.

  13. Tell me dawg, what's crime in Sweden like?

AGain, we already have enough gun control. Gun control laws did not stop that guy in the theater did they?

    1. Gun control isn't saying "pretty please dont bring a gun into the cinema", with a sign on the door. Gun control is making the ownership of high capacity magazines and big semi auto rifles a crime that will get you large fines or jail time.

    2. Paul, mate you are banging your head against a brick wall with this argument man. You either get it or you don't - clearly some posters don't. Unfortunately it comes back to too many folks behaving like sheep, oblivious to the actual threats we face.
And for fucks sake does anybody really feel more safe defending themselves with a knife than with a gun? Laws don't mean shit when it comes to protecting my loved ones, "better judged by 12 than carried by six".

      Happy Tuesday.

  14. It kinda depends on the state you live in. In some states gun laws are too slack. In others too strict. Laws in Texas that allow gang members with juvenile felony convictions to possess assault rifles in public are too slack, for example. Laws in other states that make it difficult or impossible for law abiding citizens to possess guns are too strict. In the end, no law will stop lawlessness and murder. Only another man with a will and a weapon can do that. Contrary to popular belief, police do not beam down from space. At some point, a citizen may have to protect himself or another. But that is another problem all to itself. Can a concealed weapon holder score a headshot on a fully armored hostile who is hidden by smoke and covered by 140 moving citizens? It is my profession to do this, and I will be the first to admit that's a shitty fuckin shot to take. If you plan on defending yourself and your fellow man with a weapon, make sure you train to do so. Remember, guns don't kill people. People kill people. People who cant shoot kill the wrong people. And people unwilling to kill people may die at the hands of those who are.

  16. I enjoyed your post, and think you're spot on. I had an almost-home invasion a couple months ago, but for some reason the dude was interested in coming in when he heard my shotgun load. The threat of violence is a great deterrent...

I had an off-topic question though. What are your personal thoughts about Olympic weightlifting as a (strength?) training method? I know you've talked a little bit in the past about how "putting weight over head" and "pressing weight over head" are totally different animals, and if you have time, your thoughts would be welcome! And if you don't have time, maybe its something you and Jamie could talk about (haven't heard the latest podcast, so if you guys did... sorry!)

Keep up the great work Paul!

    1. I like Oly lifting, I just suck at it. I don't think it's as good as a strength building method because Oly lifting is so darn technical. Making or missing lifts is often about technique more than brute strength. So in some ways the brute strength factor doesn't exist in Olympic lifting.

  17. The problem is that guns are already prolific and readily available.

I live in Japan which has basically the most strict gun law -- if you're not a cop you can't have one (excluding very very rare cases). It's been that way for awhile too, so the (black) market for guns is much smaller?

Making this the law in America would have no little or no immediate effect because people would still be able to get a hold of guns and there would still be a culture of guns.

I wonder what would happen in the long-term though. If America banned any firearms for ordinary civilians and regularly disposed of them, after 50 years what would happen to gun crimes? What do you think Paul?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Paul,

I agree that there is some evidence that suggests that lawful gun ownership or even mandatory gun ownership can lead to a decrease in crime. But that's a generalization. What do you think would have happened if even 10 people in the theater opened fire on the gunman during all the chaos. I think the body count would be a lot higher. You sound totally naive if you really think that most people can keep their cool and hit the bulls eye in a conflict whether it's a drunken bar fight or a mass shooting spree.

I'm not saying guns should be banned, but I do think that simply arming people is like putting a band aid on the problem. There's clearly something rotten in this society when a shooting spree is viewed as a viable outlet for one's frustrations. You don't see this anywhere else. I'd rather we first figure out why people a) need to shoot up a theater and b) even consider it as an option before I go about arming them.

And just to show you that I'm not some nutty ban all the guns liberal, I'm forwarding you this video about gun ownership in Swtizerland. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IaxOZ-fbe6M This is the type of the responsible gun ownership I can get behind. But not until we fix a bunch of other shit first.

    1. I already mentioned Switzerland.

I also don't think that people are always or even rarely, will be able to pull their gun in an adrenaline filled situation, and hit a bullseye. But it's better than getting wasted and having no chance.

I agree, that I think we have a problem with our current society. But I've written about that too. We have turned into an entitlement society, and when people don't get what they want, they lash out in a dangerous way. I have all sorts of opinions about that.

Then Jason Statum will ask to do podcast stuff with you.
