  1. I don't usually comment on these things. But I've given several podcasts a try and they always end up sucking dick and I can't get my time back

Chaos and Bang Your Ears is the shit though. I can't wait for each one to come out and love hearing you guys just go back and forth on random stuff. Always cracks my shit up. Keep up the great work.

  3. The swinging blad you were talking about was in reference to Edgar Allan Poe's "The Pit and the Pendulum."

    2. I got your back man. But so does Jamie, so watch out. Kidding. Podcast was hilarious and I think you were spot on about the upper back strength being key for a badass deadlift.

  4. Stoning as punishment has been a sacred ritual since biblical times at the very least. Never take that away please.

    1. I don't think we have it in 'Merica so can't really take away what we don't have.

  5. Got a question about paused benching: do you try to sink the weight a bit on your chest for the torso to bear a bit of the load or do you maintain it at the bottom as long as it touches a single hair of your singlet? Thanks

    1. I just lower, pause, and press. It does rest on the chest.

  6. The Bacon thing is because people like to be followers....since all these youtube videos on bacon came out. Like the shirts BACON BACON BACON etc and that shit.

I haven't finished audio yet, listening now....but I'd like some more feedback on thoughts on drinking and lifting. It seems like some of the biggest names say they drank a ton and still made gains. I'm guessing this is just because they're genetic freaks? Plus I guess the testosterone drops would be void since they are running high cycles? Should we stay away from alcohol besides the rare few drinks if we want best results?

Same question goes to sleeping. These guys are saying they ran off 4-5 hours of sleep nightly and there are articles saying BS on 7-9 hours of sleep. What do you think on this? Can your body normalize to 5 hours of sleep and still produce? Or are you hurting gains again and should try to get 7-9 to maximize results?

    1. Drinking fucks with your training. There is no doubt about that.

Sleeping is very individualistic. But no ones lifting got better from drinking. So to me, that's a pretty easy answer. And beer sucks.

    2. Thanks for reply, pretty much what I thought but good to get confirmed considering the internet is BS these days with so much people saying crap. Will be getting your book soon....once school calms down so I can read it, looking forward to it.

That Podcast sure didn't go like I thought it would haha. Still good stuff though, you guys do entertain and really give a good view on not letting shit mess with you and living life how you want without caring about what others think if their opinions differ...without being judgmental towards them.

    4. I feel that people make zombie jokes and Chuck Norris jokes because they like to be followers, but bacon stands on its own merits.

  8. Want to use this opportunity to mention a couple of things I have taken away from this blog, been running 531 for awhile now, Jims no bulllshit approach to life and training resonates with me, and the simple structure allows me to lift in my work environment. Which is somewhat unusual being that I work away in remote ass Australia as a miner for two week at a time so the gym only has freeweights. Found your blog from a post Jim linked and have gone back to read as much as I could find, you are an inspiration.

Your book was also an excellent read, I think people underestimate the mental aspect of lifting/having your life and headspace right to make progress and you invested a good portion of the book to it which I took a lot away from.

I would also like to thank you for a couple of training tips I never though of, particularly the wide grip on squatting, my elbows have been recently flaring up after squatting because I was always under the illusion that the closer grip was essential for upper back tightness, today I tried your method and to my surprise my chest actually caved less and stayed higher even under maximal loads while setting a huge PB on my 531 5's week.

Kolklov press's these kicked the shit out of me also, will definitely be including in my overhead work.

Good luck with your continued success

  9. Mr. Carter, question for the next show:

How old were you when you started losing your hair? Did you try any drugs or other options to treat it? Were you single or married at the time?

    Thanks!

  10. Paul, is there any way you guys could put the podcasts back on mediafire? I know a couple of them were hosted there as well as 4shared. Thanks.

  11. Look up Epic Meal Time on YouTube. That's about the time I noticed the bacon surge and you should be able to tell why after a few episodes of it. Could be unrelated but that's when I heard more about bacon.

  12. I just noticed this, and I don't mean this in a negative way, but sometimes the way you speak reminds me of Jeff Bridges in the The Big Lebowski, specially the "Gosh" and "Man".

    Anyway awesome podcast.

  13. Who was the powerlifter girl you guys were talking about? I could't understand her name.

  14. Is there some bacon surge I'm unaware of? It seems like bacon has always been at least kind of a big deal.

Bacon is awesome. F the haters. I don't eat it much at all, but it's place in a typical breakfast, a club sandwich, or the occasional cheeseburger is warranted.

  15. Wow, great podcast! Haha, can't say I'm surprised about Jamie (haven't watched it and have no plan to), but ah well, to each their own. It's his life, and much respect to him regardless.

  19. Bacon: It makes omelets taste awesome without horribly adding to the fat content if you drain the grease.

Wine: Agreed. Went to a wine tasting, everything $12-25 a bottle. All of them worse than the $7 wine I normally drink.

Kara's OHP: Quick google says 75-85kg.

Fat: It serves a purpose. In a zombie apocalypse, they'll slow down the rest of the zombies for you. Or in a normal apocalypse, it's a source of energy for the fat person. Or cannibals.

  20. As far as "celebrity" guests for the show, have you ever considered Henry Rollins? He's a bit of a P.C. liberal douche these days, but he's been training a long time, and still looks to be in great shape. I'd be interested to hear him speak about his training philosophy/style. And I hear he has a new t.v. show to promote, so he may be open to doing the show. Here's a link to his site: http://henryrollins.com/contact

    1. Excellent. And for what it's worth, I sent Mr. Rollins an e-mail pretty much begging him to do the show. Maybe all the fans who are interested can do the same?

Also, two other people I think would make for interesting guests are; Lou Ferrigno: http://louferrigno.com/contact/

      and Franco Columbu: http://www.columbu.com/
